Boston EV Drivers Getting 150 New Charging Stations

Here’s a piece of good news for drivers of electric vehicles (EVs) and hybrids in Boston and some parts of Massachusetts. BMW has recently announced their partnership with Coulomb Technologies to install 150 ChargePoint stations in the city and across the state.

The majority of these charging stations will be located within the Greater Boston Area along or near Massachusetts’ Route 495 Beltway.

BMW is set to start selling their Active E all-electric vehicle within the next two years and BMW drivers will benefit from the large network of charging stations that BMW is currently installing or planning to install shortly. With the rollout, Active E owners are assured that they can “conveniently and safely recharge their electric vehicle at any ChargePoint Network-enabled electric vehicle charging station in the US.”

Drivers of other electric vehicles will also benefit from this network as Coulomb Technologies’ ChargePoint stations can also service non-BMW vehicles.

Just a minor sticking point. Some people look at charging stations as obsolete relics even before they’re built. I agree.

It’s pointless in a way and strongly reflective of our fossil-fuel conditioned mindset. People go to gas stations because that’s where fuel is stored safely and conveniently for everyone’s use. Electricity on the other hand, is available at home! Why would anyone choose to go to a station when one can easily and conveniently charge their vehicle at home?
