Cell Phone Collection Drives – May 2012

We’ve been getting good feedback on our monthly roundup of used cell phone collection and recycling events and some people actually wrote to us to include their events in our list. For the month of May 2012, here are the upcoming e-waste recycling events:

May 5 – Washtenaw County, Michigan
Annual Electronics Recycling Event

The University of Michigan and Ann Arbor Public Schools will hosting their annual electronics recycling for the benefit of the residents of Washtenaw County. The event will be held on Saturday, May 5th at Pioneer High School, 601 W. Stadium Boulevard in Ann Arbor, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Used electronic devices like cell phones, obsolete pagers, computer monitors, and TV sets will be accepted free of charge during the event.

May 12 – Wheatland Township, Illinois
Wheatland Township Electronics Recycling

Wheatland Township in Will County, Illinois will host an electronics recycling event on Saturday, May 12th. Residents may bring their old cell phones, LCDs, printers and cartridges,monitors, TVs, VCRs, DVD players, cameras, scanners, modems,computers, keyboards, mice, and other discarded electronics devices from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday.

The drive is conducted by the Township in cooperation with Vintage Tech Recyclers. Interstate Batteries is also participating to assist residents who might want to recycle used batteries during the event.

May 12 – Greensboro, North Carolina
Elon University Electronics Collection

An electronics waste collection event will be held at Elon University in Greensboro, North Carolina this Saturday, May 12th.

The event, hosted by the university’s Office of Sustainability in cooperation with the Triad Goodwill is part of the school’s yearly “Don’t Trash It” campaign.

Residents may drop off their used cell phones, computers, computer peripherals, DVD players, etc. at the parking lot of Elon Community Church at 271 N. Williamson Ave. from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

May 12 – Lawrence, Kansas
City of Lawrence Electronic Recycling

The City of Lawrence is hosting an electronic recycling event from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in the parking lot at Free State High School, 4700 Overland Drive. Items accepted include computers, printers, copiers, scanners, fax machines, televisions, video equipment, cell phones and other small appliances. There is a $10 fee to recycle computer monitors and a $15 fee for televisions, payable by cash or check, though other products will be recycled at no cost. Items not accepted include paint, motor oil, pesticides, fluorescent bulbs and large appliances.

May 18 – Putnam County, Tennessee
2012 Electronic Waste Collection event

The Cookeville/Putnam County Clean Commission and the Putnam County Solid Waste Department will hold their 2012 Electronic Waste Collection event on Friday, May 18, from noon to 6 p.m. and Saturday, May 19, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Residents of Putnam County may drop off their discarded electronic devices at the Jefferson Avenue Church of Christ, in the parking lot on the corner of Jackson and Jefferson in Cookeville. May 18 – 19 – Knoxville, Tennessee
University of Tennessee Recycling

The University of Tennessee UT Recycling department will be hosting a couple of electronics waste recycling events on May 18 to 19. The first one will be at the student lot at the corner of Joe Johnson Drive and River Driveon Friday, May 18 (9 a.m. to 3 p.m.) and is exclusive to businesses, government agencies, nonprofits, and other organizations. On Saturday, May 19, residents may bring their used household electronic items to Staff Lot 66 parking lot at the corner of Joe Johnson Drive and E. J. Chapman Drive.

May 19 – Paddock Lake, Wisconsin
Paddock Lake Recycling

Paddock Lake Village in Kenosha County, Wisconsin in cooperation with certified e-waste collector Asset Recyclers will be hosting a free e-waste drop-off event on Saturday, May 19, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Residents may deposit electronic items like used cellular phones, televisions, computer hard drives, monitors, laptops, printers, keyboards, scanners, fax machines, etc. for proper disposal at Paddock Lake Village Hall, 6969 236th Avenue, Paddock Lake.

May 19 – Mamaroneck, New York
Mamaroneck Public Library E-Waste Recycling Day

The Mamaroneck Public Library in cooperation with Green Solutions Group will hold E-Waste Recycling event on Saturday, May 19th at the parking lot by the Emelin Theatre on Library Lane, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Discarded or unwanted electronic items like old cell phones, computers, cathode ray tubes (CRT) from TVs, wireless telephones, electronic keyboards, mice, printers, cell phones, remote controls, timers, chargers, batteries, monitors, etc. will be collected.

May 25 – Concord, North Carolina
World of Outlaws Recycling

Starting on May 25th, fans of the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series can bring their used cell phones at the WoO Sprint Car Series souvenir trailer at The Dirt Track in Charlotte or the World Racing Group office in Concord, N.C. in exchange for a complimentary fan pit pass upgrade. Proceeds from the collected cell phones will benefit Cell Phones for Soldiers to help purchase two-and-a-half hours of free talk time to deployed troops.

The collection drive is part of the “Outlaws Give Back” charitable program of the World Racing Group.

May 2012 – Homewood, Illinois
South Suburban Family Shelter

The South Suburban Family Shelter in Homewood, Illinois is calling on residents of Cook County to support their ongoing cell phone collection drive to help raise funds for this nonprofit organization. Cell phones for donations are accepted at the following locations: SSFS administrative office, 18139 Harwood, Homewood; Bergstein’s NY Deli, 200 Dixie Highway, Chicago Heights; and Doyle Designed Salon, 2630 Flossmoor Road., Flossmoor.
