Great read. I live here in Austin and recently a company, www.sellphoneforcash.com did a great fundraising event with Goodwill where they not only had cell phone collection boxes at all Goodwill retail locations but also partnered up with a conference. Its amazing how people will come together for a great cause. Everyone has a cell phone, why not do the right thing with it and find a good use or place for it after you are done with it. Whatever you do, don't throw it away.

Thanks, Kathy. I find your clocks upcycled from those vintage 16mm film reels beautiful - I think rescuing those reels to create these handmade clocks is a superb idea. Thanks for sharing this with us, I'll definitely include this in my next "upcycling ideas" post.

It's amazing how much waste there still is. Times are changing though. We as a company have made a big effort to use recycled product in our office furniture, and many others are doing the same in lots of different industries.

@Dave Dugdale, I probably wouldn't be caught in one, too. But, if it's a matter of survival for the family and proving a point we strongly believe in, like in William Kamkwamba's situation, I'm sure we'll both be at the top of that rickety structure. :)

wow.... I'm amazed how big this business is. I was wondering why the city doesn't pick up your trash unless you put out the recycling bins. They are making big money doing it. Thanks for your insightful posts.

I had an unlocked 2g and 3g iphone with T-mobile and i was always happy. Then i started using the 3gs my bro in law has and saw just how fast the apps and everything else loaded on it and that was enough for me to make the jump to AT&T and I have been happy every since. Definitely an upgrade and with the price drop how can you not get one.
