In 2009, Texans recycled a total of 12,478,301 lbs. of used computer equipment, according to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).
The number was collated from the annual reports submitted by electronics manufacturers participating in the Texas Computer Equipment Recycling Program.
In 2007, by virtue of a state legislation, electronics manufacturers in Texas were mandated to “provide a free and convenient program for collecting and recycling consumers’ used computer equipment.” Each manufacturer is responsible for collecting and recycling its own brands of computer equipment.
This has been an effective program, now participated in by over 80 manufacturers representing more than 100 computer brands, as the state law also effectively bans any manufacturer from selling any equipment within Texas, unless they participate in the program being administered by the TCEQ.

Way to go Texas… I hope more states follow in the ways of states like Texas. There is no reason to believe that computer recycling should not be the norm in America! Thanks for the update.
