HTC One X and Galaxy S3 from Samsung are two top sellers in market today with most advanced features and latest version of Android installed in them. Both have quad-core processors, latest Android Ice Cream Sandwich operating system, bigger screens, higher RAM and storage and other exciting features. This article gives you a head to head feature comparison for both these models.

Design and build

HTC One X has a sturdy and attractive design with a polycarbonate finish and sturdy body. The dimensions of the device are 124 x 8.9 x 80 mm while that of Galaxy S3 is 137 x 71 x 8.6 mm.  HTC One X weighs around 130 grams while S3 is bit heavier measuring 133 grams. One X has curved corners and has better finish when compared to Samsung.  HTC One X has Unibody design and it’s difficult to replace the battery as back plate cannot be removed. On other hand, Samsung S3 has a metallic body which comes with a removable back plate that makes it easier to replace the phone’s battery when required. . S3 has a metal trimming which surrounds the sides of the device and acts as obstacle between detachable back plate and front face.

HTC One X has a remarkable capacitive touch-screen display which measures 4.7 inches diagonally. The super IPS LCD display has a pixel density of 312 pixels per inch and has default resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. Due to very high pixel density, the screen clarity is excellent and it produces sharp, deeply attractive and colorful images. One minor drawback of the LCD screen is that visibility is poor during sunlight.

Samsung S3 has a slightly bigger screen measuring 4.8 inches diagonally. The Super AMOLED HD screen has default resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels and pixel density of 306 pixels per inch. When compared with HTC One X, it has better contrast and visibility during day light.


Samsung Galaxy S3 comes packed with 1.4 GHz Exynos Quad-core processor and 2 GB RAM for hassle-free performance. The media and multi-tasking capabilities of the phone are extremely good and phone scored 12,127 in benchmarking tool AnTuTu.

HTC One X comes packed with 1.5 Ghz quad-core Nvidia Tegra 3 processor and 1 GB and has similar multi-tasking capabilities as S3. But when calibrated with benchmarking tool AnTuTu it scored 10, 809 which is less than rating of Samsung S3.


Both Samsung S3 and HTC One X have an 8-megapixel rear camera with 1080p HD video recording capacity. Both have common-features like Image Stabilization, LED Flash, Digital Zoom and Auto-focus capabilities. HTC One X has a 1.3 MP front-facing camera for video calling while Samsung S3 has 2 Megapixel front-facing Camera. HTC One X has zero-shutter lag and automatic Face-zoom.  Samsung S3 has some additional camera features like extracting stills from recorded video and video editing options which are not available in HTC One X.

Operating System

Both the phones have recent Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system installed in them. While HTC One X has its trademark HTC Sense User Interface with the ring that you can drag on the home-screen containing 4-user selected icons.  Samsung S3 has its own Touch Wiz User Interface and other cool features like S3 Voice Assistant similar to iPhone Siri. There is another interesting feature called Smart Stay which uses eye detection to prevent the screen from dimming when users are looking at it.

Battery and Other Features

Samsung S3 comes with a 2100 mAH Li-Ion battery while HTC One X comes with 1800 mAH Li-Polymer battery. HTC One X has a talk-time of 12 hours while Samsung S3 has talk-time of 17 hours and standby time of 300 hours. S3 has longer battery life than HTC One X.

The features which are common for both devices include DLNA support, Gyroscope, Accelerometer, GPS Navigation, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth etc. Samsung has in-built storage of 16 GB and extendable memory of up to 64 GB while HTC has in-built memory of 32 GB but no option for extendable storage through SD card.

Samsung S3 has NFC (Near Field Communication) support which is not present in One X. By using S beam application users can transfer files between Samsung smart phones at rate of 1 Gbps just by touching the other device.


Samsung S3 costs Rs. 36, 900 while HTC One X costs Rs. 32, 990. Both devices come with 1 Year Warranty and free shipping along with accessories like wired headset, battery, charger, data cable etc.

Final Conclusion

Both Samsung S3 and HTC One X are high-end smart phones with excellent features. But Samsung S3 has better performance than One X and at the same time higher pricing. So, depending on the requirement and budget of users, they can choose between either of the devices.
