The No Impact Experiment or No Impact Week begins today October 18, 2009 and will run for 8 days until Sunday, October 25th. Are you ready to do the experiment?
What is the No Impact Experiment?
The No Impact Experiment is inspired by the amazing story of Colin Beavan, the No Impact Man, who for one whole year decided to completely reduce his and his family’s impact on the environment by living simply and eliminating non-essentials from their lifestyle. Colin begun his experiment by asking the question: “Was it possible I could be a happier person by reducing the impact (of his lifestyle then) on the environment?” The answer Colin found out for himself was a resounding YES.
This year, Colin Beavan’s non-profit No Impact Project, in cooperation with the Huffington Post and other environmental organizations, is launching The No Impact Experiment or No Impact Week, from October 18th to October 25th, to challenge people to try and live a no impact lifestyle for one full week.

Can we really be happier by living a lifestyle that creates minimal impact on the environment? Apparently, the answer is yes we can.
By eliminating waste, conspicuous and unnecessary purchases, traveling by foot or bike, eating locally-sourced and seasonal food, reducing our use of electric appliances, etc., we will not only live healthier no-impact lives, we will rediscover and revitalize the most important relationships in our lives.
Oftentimes, the things we take for granted like TV or the computer take up so much of our time and focus, we tend to marginalize the most important people in our lives – our family and friends. By reducing clutter, in this experiment, we will be left with the only things or people that really matter.
While we still need to act globally or nationally to pressure government to enact vigorous climate legislation, we don’t need for that to happen before we ourselves, make the commitment and the changes in our lives to reduce our individual impacts on the environment.
Let’s make this happen. Live the No Impact Experiment starting today.
