Why is it important to recycle my cell phones?
There are many harmful materials in cell phones, such as, lead, arsenic, and beryllium. These toxic and persistent materials have a very negative and long lasting impact on our environment, groundwater, and if handled incorrectly, our local workers. According to industry reports, the number of wireless devices in the US is approaching 300 million and in 2005, global cell phone usage estimates were in excess of 2 billion. Recycling just 1 million phones is the equivalent of taking 1368 cars off the road for a full year. Please send us your phones to extend their life and ensure proper disposal of your cell phones.

Does my cell phone need to work in order to send it in to PaceButler?
Please send us any cell phone working or not. As an environmental service to the public, phones that are broken or not functional will be recycled in accordance to EPA guidelines. Recycled phones are not eligible for payment. In order to receive payment for a phone, the phone must be fully functional, have an intact housing, and all functions of the phone must work as intended. This includes functional speakers, ringers, and software. All manufactured parts must be intact and functional on the phone. i.e. antennas, buttons, LCD screens. Water damaged phones will be recycled. Phones with small scratches or blemishes will be accepted for payment. Please be sure to discontinue service on your cell phone before shipping it to Pacebutler Corporation.

How do I know if my phone is water damaged?
There is a moisture sensor dot or square that will be located inside the back of your phone. This indicator should be white or blue. If it has changed color to pink or red it means that water, steam or even water vapor has crept into your phone. If this has happened it may seem as if your phone is working just fine but there are no guarantees that it will continue to work or for how long. For this reason we are not able to purchase water damaged phones.

I don't see my cell phone on the price list. Why not?
Our price list is continually being updated, however, it is possible that your cell phone may be very new or just happens to be a model we have never received. Your phone could be old enough that it has no market value, in which case, we will gladly accept it as part of your shipment and recycle it through our EPA certified recycler.

How can I find out what model my cell phones are?
Most model numbers will be located under the battery of the phone. Remove the back and the battery. On the phone itself, there will be a sticker with barcodes and various numbers. Look for the model number on this sticker. (i.e. SGHT-629, i580, VX8700) If you are still unable to locate the model number, please call 1(800) 248-5360 for assistance.

Are phone donations tax-deductible?
If you donate your phone to a non-profit as part of a fundraiser, it may be possible for you to get a tax write off. You should contact your tax accountant in regards to your ability to write that donation off and the amount that would be acceptable according to your unique case. In addition, if you wish to send PaceButler the phones and have us send the money to a particular non-profit, we will gladly do that on your behalf.
